Grants from R$ 4,000 to R$12,000 (converted to US$ according to rate of exchange/ US$ 2,000 to US$ 6,0000).
Brazil – Literature Translation Grant aims to disseminate Brazilian culture abroad. It was created by the Brazilian Ministry of Culture (MinC), through Fundação Biblioteca Nacional – FBN (National Library Foundation) and its Coordenadoria Geral do Livro e da Leitura – CGLL (General Department of Books and Reading).
Brazil – Literature Translation Grant 2º half 2010 is offered to Brazilian and foreign book publishers who wish to translate, publish and distribute abroad printed and digital books of Brazilian authors and publishers previously published in Portuguese in Brazil.
Brazil – Literature Translation Grant 2º half 2010 is open to the following genres: novel, short story, poetry, chronicle, reference work, children and/or teenage literature, literary essay, social essay, historical essay and anthologies of poems and short stories.
The application for Brazil – Literature Translation Grant 2º half 2010 must be made by publishers interested via an Application Form available below. The form along with other documents requested – such as publishing house's catalogue, a copy of the book intended to be translated, a copyright comprovation and translator's resumé in Portuguese among others – must be sent to Coordenadoria Geral do Livro e da Leitura – CGLL (General Department of Books and Reading).
Fundação Biblioteca Nacional – FBN (National Library Foundation) is linked to the Brazilian Ministry of Culture and coordinates fundamental strategies in order to entwine three important basis of Brazilian Culture: library, books and reading. As one of the ten biggest national libraries in the world, FBN plays an important part in the dissemination of Brazilian culture and literature inside and outside its frontiers. It is responsible for Brazil’s participation in various international book fairs such as Frankfurt Buchmesse, Salon du Livre and Feria Internacional del Libro de Guadalajara and offers international grants to those who wish to publish Brazilian authors abroad.
